Richard Bendert  LinkedIn

Richard Bendert Richard has directed battery and energy storage product design with 39+ years’ experience in the battery industry.  Richard has worked with technology development from R&D through to production.  He understands the difficulties and methodologies required to move an idea into physical production reality.  His career has spanned development in multiple electrochemical systems having worked on FeZn, Pb-acid, NiMH, NiZn, alkaline fuel cells, and electro-chromic materials including development of battery systems for grid storage, power tools and motive power systems including, lift trucks, ground support equipment, hybrid and electric vehicles.  Throughout his career, education, management, quality assurance, testing, and documentation have been the cornerstones for any development project.

Some career accomplishments and experience:

  • Managed successful multi-million dollar projects to develop prototypes for EV, HEV, and military applications.
  • Managed engineering and development and designed batteries for various applications in several chemistries.
  • Defined Quality standards and document control systems.
  • Battery expert as member of the US TAG with ANSI for the International Electrotechnical Commission TC21, Energy Storage and Flow Battery standards subcommittees.
  • Serving on Electric Power Research Institute, Energy Storage Integration Committee for electric grid storage guideline development.
  • Worked on SAE committees for both Electric Vehicles and 42 V systems including principal author for the SAE J1798 document for testing EV modules
  • Published member of The Electrochemical Society with multiple inventions and patents.
  • Bachelor of Science in Chemistry with computer science specialization from Lawrence Technological University.

Richard has always liked working with tools and doing woodworking projects.  His taste in music is definitely rooted from his Midwestern upbringings, being raised in a suburb of “Motown”.  He does enjoy his Sci-Fi with multiple format versions of Star Wars, Star Trek, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, and more.  Just ask him to talk about his family and you will find out about how “AWESOME” his wife, children, their spouses and the grandkids are!!!!  Not just proud of them, but truly in awe of them.
